32. A PPD Survivor's Hot Take On The Lindsay Clancy Trial So Far

Hi Mama,

  • Have you ever wondered what happens when a mother experiencing a severe postpartum mental health crisis doesn't get the help she desperately needs?

  • Can you feel heartbroken over what happened to Lindsay Clancy's children while also feeling compassion for the mental illness and healthcare failures that may have played a role in her story?

  • And what if the darkest moments of someone's life aren't the whole story of who they are?

In this episode, I'm sharing something much more personal than I normally do. With the Lindsay Clancy trial currently taking place, I felt like I needed to talk about it—not just as someone who has followed this case, but as a mom who has personally experienced severe postpartum depression and what it was like to be admitted to an inpatient psychiatric hospital. I share some of the most difficult parts of my own experience, including why I felt like I had to lie my way out of psychiatric care because I was afraid of what would happen if I told the truth. I also share my thoughts on what we've heard so far in the Lindsay Clancy trial, the ways I believe our mental healthcare system is failing mothers in crisis, and why I don't believe compassion for Lindsay and heartbreak over the loss of her children have to be mutually exclusive. Most importantly, I talk about why I refuse to judge another mother solely by what happened in her darkest moments—because I don't want to be judged by what happened in mine.

You've Got This Mama!

Love,

Stephanie
